JS Bullet Frances

Here we will be tying the tube fly Bullet Frances. It was kind of new here in the late 90's when Jón Sigurðsson started to make this version of the fly when his sisters husband, Rúnar worked as a guide in Laxá in Kjós. The fly was designed for Rúnar. This version he told me has been remarkably successful, specially in the midsummer and late summer season. The Bullet Frances is a great option for salmon fishing and I believe that Jón was among the first angler and tiers here in Iceland to put a bead on a tube. Jón was always thinking that way. Progress was his attitude both in fishing and fly tying. The Bullet Frances is a simple pattern to tie and totally worth keeping a few in your box when you go fishing! And as well all know the original "Frances" of flies was designed by Peter Deane in the UK. It almost became an instant classic in the mid 60's. It's named after Miss Frances Hydon, but she was Peters fly tying assistant. As we all know, the fly evolved from a shrimp pattern named Black Eyed Prawn. Pretty much the same idea. Black eyed Prawn was it called, but it's always been called Frances here in Iceland.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
