Favorite of Carrère

This pattern is very similar to the English pattern the Red Tag.

We don't know if Carrere was aware of the English pattern or came up with this on his own. The major difference is in the hackle which is tied in Spanish style. See my video on Moscas Ahogadas to understand more.

Hook: I used a size 12 barbless dry fly hook
Thread: Red silk YLI here. I waxed the thread
Tag: Red Wool
Body: Peacock herl twisted on silk like dubbing
Hackle: Redish brown fibers from kidney feathers stacked

My hackle is from Kerby Farm. He sells via a private group on Facebook called Kerby's Hackle Chickens.
Gallo de Leon can be used and was probably the original. Indio Rubion is what you are looking for.

Thanks!

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
