Blacknose Dace

Created by Art Flick and first mentioned in his 1947 "Streamside Guide to Naturals and their Imitations," the Blacknose Dace is one of the most popular and effective streamers in existence. A simple pattern to tie, this pattern works well for all trout and many warmwater fish as well.

Hook: 4x-6x long streamer
Thread: Black
Tail: Red yarn, short
Rib: Silver oval tinsel
Body: Silver flat tinsel
Wing: Brown over black over white bucktail

Savage Flies is a project with the mission of encouraging and teaching fly tying to as many people as possible. The channel is named after one of my western Maryland homewaters, the Savage River. I've been uploading at least three new videos a week (usually Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).

Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know in the comments if you have any tying tips you would like to share or if you have any patterns you would like to see tied here.

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
