Beginners Guide to Fly Tying Scissors

Scissors are one of the more important parts of your fly tying tool set. Every day I get a new tier asking what they need to start tying besides a vice. Most people ask what kit to get, however I do not recommend getting full kits because some of the tools and materials might not be useful to you. It is best to get these items individually. Scissors are not excluded from this. Most of the kit scissors are low quality, unless your willing to pay good money for the kit. Instead, look for good quality scissors in the shape and size best suited for your type of tying. If all you are going to be tying is large saltwater or pike flies, then maybe a 4.5" hair scissor is the only one you need. Or if you will only be tying tiny dry flies, then the small spring style scissors will be all you need. But for most of us, having a couple different kinds of scissors can be beneficial as well.
