Anson Special

The Anson Special bucktail is an old fly originated by Mr. Anson Bell who worked as a logger in northern Maine and New Hampshire. His work placed him near water such as the Magalloway where his bucktail was tested. I've tied this fly with wood duck, but using teal slips, mallard, or gadwall should all wok fine on the fly.

The fly was tied for all species of trout with the brook trout in particular in New York state and in New England. If you don't have jungle cock, try painting on some eyes instead.

the pattern can be found in Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing (http://amzn.to/2rWR5oa)by Dr. Joseph D. Bates Jr. on page 218. It is a book I use often and I keep a well-thumbed copy on my tying bench.

The hook used in the video is no longer available, but any 4xl streamer hook will work perfectly fine.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
