Notes: Mike's streamer is based on the dressing Forgotten Flies, but the original pattern published in Martinek's "Streamer Fly Patterns for Trolling and Casting" lists a slightly different dressing (See Below). As always, Mike tied a wonderfully dressed streamer with precise wraps and a beautiful head. This is a fly that works well on dark days and rough water and has taken fish throughout the state of Maine. If you are having trouble locating hooded mergaser, you could also use American widgeon or a dyed mallard flank.

Hook: 2-4 8XL
Rib: Oval silver twisted medium
Body: Flat silver tinsel
Belly: A small bunch of orange bucktail as long as hook and a medium bunch of grass bucktail under it
Underwing: 6 peacock herls 1/2" longer that hook
Wing: 2 pale yellow hackles with a bright (sunflower) yellow hackle over each 2 hackles per side
Shoulder: Chocolate brown mallard flanks
Cheeks: Jungle cock
Throat/Hackle: White schlappen (long) with final beard of orange
Head: Black
