#66 Black Eyed Susan (Var) - Mike Boyer

Tied by: Mike Boyer
Originated by: Mike Martinek
Source: Forgotten Flies - Schmookler & Sils

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek Rangeley Streamer 6xl
Thread: White
Tag: Flat silver tinsel
Body: Yellow floss / silk
Rib: Flat silver tinsel
Belly: Green bucktail followed by white and a golden pheasant crest sweeping up
Throat: White hackle fibers followed by yellow
Wing: 4 Yellow hackles
Shoulder: Hooded mergaser flank
Topping: Green dyed golden pheasant crest
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black

Notes: Mike's streamer is based on the dressing Forgotten Flies, but the original pattern published in Martinek's "Streamer Fly Patterns for Trolling and Casting" lists a slightly different dressing (See Below). As always, Mike tied a wonderfully dressed streamer with precise wraps and a beautiful head. This is a fly that works well on dark days and rough water and has taken fish throughout the state of Maine. If you are having trouble locating hooded mergaser, you could also use American widgeon or a dyed mallard flank.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
