Tied by: Kelly Lovelady
Originated by: Mr. Homer Rhodes and Mr. Joe Brooks
Source: Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing, Joseph Bates 1966, pg. 204-205

Hook: Mustad 34007
Thread: Black 6/0
Tail: Orange bucktail
Body: Gold flat tinsel
Wing: Red Bucktail
Head: Black

Notes: The Strawberry Blonde is one of the original six color variations of the infamous Brook's Blonde series. The pattern was developed by Mr. Homer Rhodes and popularized by Joe Brooks with his 6 color variations including the Platinum Blonde, Honey Blonde, Black Blonde, Argentine Blond, Pink Blonde and of course the Strawberry Blonde. Tied in smaller sizes (#2 and smaller), the flies are quite successful on freshwater quarry. The pattern is tied as a breather pattern, being that actions in the rod or currents give life to this simple pattern. The wing should be tied at about a 30 - 45 degree angle off the hook shank so that the movement of water over the hair produces some life.

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
