Tied by: Marcelo Morales
Originated by: Samuel R. Slaymaker II
Source: Streamer Fly Fishing in Fresh and Salt Water, Bates (1966) Pg. 183-184, 297-298

Hook: Partridge CS17 #4
Thread: White 8/0
Tail: Bright green bucktail
Body: Pinkish white dubbing
Rib: Silver flat tinsel
Throat: Pink bucktail tied short
Wing: White bucktail under pink bucktail (slightly blended) under green bucktail under badger hair.
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black

Notes: The Little Rainbow Trout streamer is one third of a trio of trout fry patterns created by Samuel Slaymaker. The Little Brown Trout Bucktail and Little Brook Trout Bucktail patterns round out the series. The streamers were tied in a wide range of sizes from large #2 right down to "streamerette" sized 12's. The fly has a long record of taking fish wherever trout fry can be found. Like Lew Oatman and Preston Jennings, Mr. Slaymaker studied the natural fry in order to create a natural looking imitation. The hairs that make up the wing should be lightly blended with the colours above and below.

This is one of my very favourite streamers, especially when tied with polar bear. I know bucktail is original, but PB has more life to it underwater.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
