#272 - Platinum- Ryan Houston #272 - Platinum- Ryan Houston

Tied by: Ryan Houston
Originated by: Ryan Houston

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Mike Martinek 8xl #1
Thread: White
Body: Grey floss
Rib: Gold embossed tinsel tapered
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: White schlappen
Underwing: 6-8 peacock herls
Wing: 4 medium dun hackles
Cheek: Lavender Guinea fowl
Eye: Jungle cock nail
Head: Black (red band optional)

Notes: Ryan ties some beautiful streamers and has won awards for his work on the long irons. The Platinum uses some of the hard to find laveneder guinea fowl for the cheek. Ryan tapered the embossed tinsel, a detail not often seen as it adds a degree of difficulty to the fly. It can be quite tricky to cut the tinsel, but a new pair of hairdressing shears can make easy work of it. It is not something you would likely do for your everyday fishing streamers, but if you decide to tie a few to hang on the wall, it really adds to the beauty of the streamer under glass.

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
