Flies

Most of my flies are relatively simple patterns. The danish salt water fly-fishing demands flies in a lot of categories. Sometimes you can fish a location where the water is crystal clear and the surface is as a mirror, and sometimes exactly the same location is marred by hard wind, heavy waves and water as hot chocolate with marshmellows (yuck!).

Simple Patterns

Most of my flies are relatively simple patterns. The danish salt water fly-fishing demands flies in a lot of categories. Vaired in many ways

Also we fish on all times of the day; in sunshine, dawn, dusk and night. This has affected my tying. Many of my own patterns are simple basic patterns which are varied in many ways, i.e. color, use of flash, amount of dressing etc. You can see several examples of this in the fly section.

Notes on tying

A couple of small notes on tying. Remember this is salt, and even though any hook will do very well even after several times in the water, it will rust if it's not stainless. Wash your flies in fresh water after fishing, and they will last a lot longer. Also keep your fly box out of the water.
Some non-stainless hooks are better than others, and Partridges Niflor finished hooks is one good example.
More on this subject in Tie Better.

Hooks

I use many different hooks, but Mustad straight eye stainless, different Partridge stainless and niflor hooks and down eye streamer hooks are my favourites. The flies come in a lot of different sizes and my smallest salt water fly is a #16 while the largest are tied on 1/0 and 2/0 Mustad 34011 hooks.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
